Wherwell and Chilbolton Common
Inspired by an article on The Telegraph website on the ten prettiest villages in Hampshire, we decided to go to Wherwell on my day off. It’s a small village through which runs the River Test with lots of thatched cottages and other riverside dwellings.
We went over to the parish church and had a look around. The Old Rectory next-door is more like a small complex of buildings with a beautiful lawn that opens out onto the churchyard. It is so sad to me when I see these wonderful vicarages sold off to private owners for quick but short-lasting return. In the porch area was displayed the electoral roll of about 35 people. It probably means the congregation is of around 20-25, which nowadays and for a village of this size is not actually that bad.
