This post covers my recent interview with Matt Le Tissier, followed by some pastoral and theological reflections upon the problem of suffering and death, in the light of various personal recent experiences of human grief.
I’ll start with the most recent good thing. I interviewed Matt Le Tissier for Irreverend this week. I think it may have been for me the most enjoyable interview I’ve ever done. From the moment I came on the call with Matt there was something about him that was reassuring and delightful. It’s hard to describe but for a man who was one of the greatest and most entertaining attacking players the Premier League has ever produced he is astonishingly normal. And I mean that in the best possible way: no pretension, a willingness to be honest and open, what you see is what you get. Just a great guy and I think the conversation was really interesting. He has found faith in the last year also, which is amazing.
Here it is to watch if you would like to.
Our holiday in Mersea was nice for all sorts of reasons. As always with four small children, not totally relaxing. And I did continue to have some trouble sleeping. But, on the whole, many, many good things too. I read much of Dallas Willard’s Life Without Lack and a lot of Tom Wright’s biography of Paul, which I’m still working on. I’d like to write something about both in a future post.
