Most people at church aren’t aware of the Irreverend podcast…at least I think they are not. A lot of the older folks wouldn’t even really understand what a podcast is or how to access one. (I’m not being patronising here. It’s just the reality as far as I’m aware.) But sometimes I wonder if certain people at the church might be wondering what is going on. I get letters quite frequently and they always go to the church because my home address isn’t public. The other day I came in to the sacristy and there was an opened letter on my slab. The very nice man who helps with loads of our administration had opened it because it didn’t have a name on the outside. He’d written on the envelope, ‘Fr Jamie?’. I saw that it was from Eugene, Oregon and that there was a card inside with a nice note about the podcast and a hundred dollar bill. For those who don’t know (and I didn’t) Oregon is in the very far north-western corner of the US. That’s the wonder of podcasts: you don’t know who in the world you might be talking to. Literally. A few days ago, about a week after the first, I got a letter from the same person with another hundred bucks. I might have to start a fund or something.
